Tribute I want to give a special thank you to my mother, who tirelessly drove me to practice, and to my father, who made it whenever his schedule allowed. Their support laid the foundation for everything that followed.
I was blessed with tremendous mentorship from a young age. Mr. John Serafin helped foster my love of the game—not only through his knowledge, but through his patient and inspiring approach to teaching. Mr. Mike Barry formed the Southside Strikers when I was in grade school, giving us southside players a platform to compete at a high level against the best in the area.
Then came Mr. Dennis P. Long, who invited me to join Busch Gardens, which later became Busch Soccer Club. Mr. Long elevated youth soccer in St. Louis to another level, building what I always referred to as “the happiest place on earth.”
All this eventually led me to Pete Sorber. When Pete discovered I was no longer eligible to go to SIUE, Sorbs took me to the legendary Flo Valley. I was extremely fortunate to have Sorbs as a mentor until his passing, and his influence remains with me today.
I would be remiss not to mention the stars of the St. Louis Steamers from the 70s and 80s. They gave us not only great soccer, but also the dream of becoming like them.
