The National Soccer Hall of Fame inducted McNab in 2005 as part of a process of recognising significant pre-1950s players. According to the Hall of Fame, “We were aware that in the early decades of the Hall of Fame a number of outstanding players had slipped through the cracks of the selection process. In order to correct these oversights we established a Blue Ribbon panel consisting of historians Colin Jose, Roger Allaway and Hall of Famer Walter Bahr, to review the credentials of all Veterans from the pre-NASL era. Out of a total of 150 players who met the eligibility criteria, the panel unanimously recommended, and the Board approved, the special induction of these five players.” McNab was among the five selected.[10]

Forward who played for several famous teams in Fall River and St. Louis in the 1920s and ’30s, winning six U.S. Open Cups in a row from 1930 to 1935. McNab had played 190 games in the Scottish first division and was a regular in the Scottish national team before moving to America in 1924. He played in the ASL for Boston, Fall River and New Bedford from 1924 to 1932 and the St. Louis league for Stix, Baer & Fuller, Central Breweries and Shamrocks from 1932 to 1936, winning seven league titles. From Scotland to the eastern border of the United States, Alex McNabb found the pay was a little better in the U.S. A Scottish National Team member, Alex would be on the field with the New Bedford Whalers that beat Stix, Baer, and Fuller from St. Louis, in the 1932 National Open Cup final. Money talks and when McNabb, Billy Gonsalvez, and Bill McPherson were asked to move to St. Louis to be a part of the Stix, Baer, and Fuller team, they all moved to St. Louis. Alex would go on to win 6 National Open Cup championships before turning to the coaching ranks remaining in St. Louis. He enjoyed St. Louis so much, he would live out his time as an employee of Stix, Baer, and Fuller and would pass away from a heart attack, suffered on a golf course in St. Louis.
Inducted into the United States National Soccer Hall of Fame in 2005, it was only fitting that he be inducted into the St. Louis Soccer Hall of Fame.
