As quiet and unassuming he may seem, Phil Torrisi was a terror on the field. He may not have been the player in the limelight, but he made sure the job got done. The teams he was associated with may not have played in the power full St. Louis League, but when push came to shove and the two leagues would clash it was alway a battle. Playing on teams early on like Volpi, St. Matthews and then with the reinvented St. Ambrose team, Phil and his teammates found their way to Ziegenhein. With other members of the St. Louis Soccer Hall of Fame, Ziegenhein would go on a winning streak. Winning back to back Missouri Open Cups, and for the old timers, they would win three consecutive Marre Cup of Champions. Playing against other League Champions, the Marre tournament was known as the Champions League Cup.
Even though it is not a part of the Hall of Fame process, Phil’s contribution to the SPENSA organization goes beyond the Hall of Fame. At his request, Phil asked that Chris Bianci be the soloist for tonights’ event.
