Bill was one of the many athletes in St. Louis that played soccer as a secondary sport. Bill was a first baseman for the Pittsburg Pirates and the St. Louis Browns and actually played in the 1909 World Series with the Pirates. When not playing baseball, Bill played for Diel F.C. managed by Thomas Cahill, the “Father of American Soccer”, in the St. Louis Association Football League, the Memphis Chicks in the Southern League, and St. Leo’s in the St. Louis League when he was not on the baseball diamond.
